The Library of Calcutta Girls’ B.T. College, functional since the inception of the college, stands as one of the most vital academic and intellectual assets of the institution. Over the years, the library has developed into a well-organized hybrid library that harmonizes traditional print resources with modern digital facilities. It now functions as a digital library using Koha Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS), ensuring efficient cataloguing, circulation, and access to resources in line with global library standards.

The vision of the Calcutta Girls’ B.T. College Library is to evolve into a state-of-the-art knowledge and learning hub that blends traditional scholarship with digital innovation. The library houses an impressive collection of approximately 16,000 books that span a wide spectrum of disciplines relevant to teacher education, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The collection reflects both core academic texts and supplementary readings that encourage students to engage in deeper study and independent exploration. Rich in both English and Bengali resources, the library is particularly noteworthy for its literary holdings on eminent authors, thereby fostering an appreciation for diverse literary traditions.

Periodicals and Journals

To complement the book collection, the library subscribes to 15 reputed journals across various disciplines. These journals provide up-to-date research findings, critical essays, and theoretical insights essential for teacher education and interdisciplinary academic pursuits. Membership and Consortia

The library is well connected with national and international knowledge networks. It holds membership with N-LIST under INFLIBNET, which enables access to a wide range of e-resources, including e-books and e-journals. Additionally, it is a proud member of the ONOS (One Nation One Subscription) platform of the Government of India, which ensures equitable access to vast digital resources for students and faculty. The association with the United States Information Service (USIS) further broadens the scope of reference and research, facilitating exposure to global perspectives in education, culture, and social sciences.

Reference Section

The reference section of the library is a remarkable academic treasure. It includes authoritative works such as the Encyclopaedia Britannica and an Encyclopaedia on Education, which serve as indispensable tools for academic inquiry. A wide variety of dictionaries in different languages enhances linguistic competence and supports both general and specialized studies. The library also preserves a valuable collection of rare books, including Sahitya Sadhak Charitmala and Bharatkosh, which embody rich cultural and literary heritage.

Special Collections
